The Mexican is the legendary original strain where it all began. This Psilocybe cubensis variety was used for centuries by the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican civilisations in their spiritual ceremonies. The Aztecs called these mushrooms "Teonanácatl", meaning "flesh of the gods". The FreshMushrooms 100% Mycelium grow kit offers you the chance to cultivate this historic mushroom yourself.
Characteristics of the Mexican strain
The Mexican produces medium-sized mushrooms with slender stems and small to medium-sized, conical caps. The colour ranges from light brown to straw-coloured, with a characteristic nipple-shaped elevation on top of the cap. This strain is known for its reliable growth and abundant yields, making it highly suitable for beginning growers.
With a strength of 2.5 out of 5, the Mexican is one of the mildest strains in our range. The effects are gentle and accessible, characterised by a warm, cheerful feeling and light visual effects. Users often experience fits of laughter, increased creativity and a sense of wonder. The Mexican is the perfect choice for your first mushroom experience or for moments when you want a lighter, social trip.
Why choose 100% Mycelium kits?
With traditional grow kits, you must wait until the substrate is fully colonised. FreshMushrooms kits are different: the entire substrate is already grown through with active mycelium. This means you can start immediately and see results faster. The first mushrooms often appear within two weeks of activation.
What's in the kit?
Each FreshMushrooms Mexican grow kit contains a fully colonised 1200cc growbox with 100% mycelium substrate. You only need a grow bag, water and patience. The kit can produce between 4 and 7 harvests (flushes) when you follow the instructions correctly.
Growing conditions
Place the kit in a spot with indirect light and a stable temperature between 20-25°C. Keep the substrate moist but not soaked. Ventilate the grow bag briefly each day to allow fresh air in. After each harvest, you can reactivate the kit by submerging the substrate in cold water.

Storage
For best results, set up the kit immediately upon receipt. If necessary, you can briefly store an unopened kit in the refrigerator (2-8°C).
